Blue Tits living in towns and cities have evolved to sing at a higher frequency than those living in the countryside.
That’s what I learned from a student recording bird song in the park this morning. Apparently, it’s believed to be in response to the constant noise and general urban din. If you can’t hear your potential mate, then no bird blind dates, no bird candlelit romances, no little birdies and no more Blue Tits (in our urban areas anyway).
My point is not about the environment many of us live in – but sometimes I do miss the tranquillity of lockdown (that’s the only thing, mind) – it’s that I’m guessing you haven’t got the time to play the long game and evolve.
So, if you’re facing into a tough period or situation, do something now – to quote Sir Francis Bacon ‘begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in an eternity. We only have this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand…’.
And, if the Blue Tits of Manchester can do it…
